Fist Fights in Charlottesville as Violence broke out amidst Protest

A New York Times reporter in Charlottesville, Va., recounts what he saw on Saturday.Charlottesville is the place where Thomas Jefferson and James Madison talked about freedom of speech.  But this was a day of shouting, not listening. Assigned to cover the “Unite the Right” rally of white nationalists, I stood in Emancipation Park at 9:15 a.m. Saturday and looked out at the gathering in front of me. Initially, the mood was calm.  Cornel West, the Harvard scholar, was linked arm in arm with about 20 clergy members, who had walked to thepark from a sunrise service at a largely African-American church to counterprotest the demonstration by neo-Nazis and white supremacists.  Tom Perriello, a former congressman and a hopeful for governor, was there to oppose the rally, too.But then brawls broke out.  Protesters began to mace one another, throwing water bottles and urine-filled balloons — some of which hit reporters — and beating each othe...

Here's the 'TRUTH' about Alcohol

Are you becoming as skeptical as I am about public information? Fake political news? Alternative facts about the state of the world's economy? So, now I have to ask how honest is medical news. Of course everyone knows that consuming stupid amounts of alcohol is unhealthy. But puritans and some doctors can't accept the proven fact that moderate amounts of alcohol can prolong life. Professor Keith Scott-Mumby, an internationally known U.K. expert on alternative medicine, echoes what I have written over the years, that people who drink moderately live longer on average than teetotalers or those who drink to excess. In fact, there are over 20 studies that confirm this. In court it's a criminal offence to withhold truth, so why doesn't the same principle hold true in medicine? Scott-Mumby points out that the lack of discussion of the beneficial impact of alcohol has for years been a systematic policy of the U.S. public health establishment. For instance, th...

Canadian Pastor, Hyeon Soo Lim freed by North Korea gives first Address

He spent the past 2 1/2 years digging holes in North Korea’s frozen mud in the depths of winter and working for eight hours straight under the scorching sun in spring and summer, newly-released Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim told a standing-room-only crowd at Mississauga’s Light Presbyterian Church Sunday. In his first address since suddenly being released from captivity in North Korea Wednesday — laced throughout with humour — Lim said he was isolated for two years, six months and nine days with no phone, no connection to the outside world and only books on North Korea and the Bible to keep him company (the latter which he read four times in Korean and once in English.) He also wrote a song about endurance and perseverance. I worshipped alone for 130 Sundays, he said, his words translated from Korean to English. I went from solitude to a very loud chaotic world. He was welcomed back to the church Sunday morning with the cheers — and even tears — of an adoring crowd. In 2015, Lim ...

She started the New Year by confirming her status on social ...

Following its launch in June on the App Store, it rose to the top free app. Sarahah bills itself as a way to collect “honest” feedback — a chance for friends and co-workers to offer advice, comment on your strengths and weaknesses, or frankly point out problems. On Facebook and Twitter, you can spot a Sarahah user through screenshots of the teal speech bubbl...
