BURKINA FASO GOVERNMENT: "Terror Attack kills Twenty."

Gunmen opened fire on customers seated outside a restaurant, witnesses said. Foreign nationals are among the dead, but details are still emerging. The attack is now over, authorities say, with the two assailants also killed by security forces. A jihadist attack on a nearby cafe killed 30 people in January last year. There are fears that the latest attack is the work of one of the affiliates of al-Qaeda that are active in the Sahel region, the BBC's Alex Duval Smith reports. Minister of Communication Remis Dandjinou confirmed on Monday that the attack was over, with security forces carrying out checks on neighbouring buildings. The shooting began shortly after 21:00 (21:00 GMT) on Sunday on Ouagadougou's busy Kwame Nkrumah Avenue. Security forces launched a counter assault at 22:15 and the shooting ended at about 05:00 on Monday.A Turkish restaurant, the Aziz Istanbul, popular with foreigners, appears to have been at the centre of the attack. Fist Fights in Charlottesville as Violence broke out amidst Protest

A New York Times reporter in Charlottesville, Va., recounts what he saw on Saturday.Charlottesville is the place where Thomas Jefferson and James Madison talked about freedom of speech.  But this was a day of shouting, not listening. Assigned to cover the “Unite the Right” rally of white nationalists, I stood in Emancipation Park at 9:15 a.m. Saturday and looked out at the gathering in front of me. Initially, the mood was calm.  Cornel West, the Harvard scholar, was linked arm in arm with about 20 clergy members, who had walked to thepark from a sunrise service at a largely African-American church to counterprotest the demonstration by neo-Nazis and white supremacists.  Tom Perriello, a former congressman and a hopeful for governor, was there to oppose the rally, too.But then brawls broke out.  Protesters began to mace one another, throwing water bottles and urine-filled balloons — some of which hit reporters — and beating each othe...

Here's the 'TRUTH' about Alcohol

Are you becoming as skeptical as I am about public information? Fake political news? Alternative facts about the state of the world's economy? So, now I have to ask how honest is medical news. Of course everyone knows that consuming stupid amounts of alcohol is unhealthy. But puritans and some doctors can't accept the proven fact that moderate amounts of alcohol can prolong life. Professor Keith Scott-Mumby, an internationally known U.K. expert on alternative medicine, echoes what I have written over the years, that people who drink moderately live longer on average than teetotalers or those who drink to excess. In fact, there are over 20 studies that confirm this. In court it's a criminal offence to withhold truth, so why doesn't the same principle hold true in medicine? Scott-Mumby points out that the lack of discussion of the beneficial impact of alcohol has for years been a systematic policy of the U.S. public health establishment. For instance, th...

Canadian Pastor, Hyeon Soo Lim freed by North Korea gives first Address

He spent the past 2 1/2 years digging holes in North Korea’s frozen mud in the depths of winter and working for eight hours straight under the scorching sun in spring and summer, newly-released Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim told a standing-room-only crowd at Mississauga’s Light Presbyterian Church Sunday. In his first address since suddenly being released from captivity in North Korea Wednesday — laced throughout with humour — Lim said he was isolated for two years, six months and nine days with no phone, no connection to the outside world and only books on North Korea and the Bible to keep him company (the latter which he read four times in Korean and once in English.) He also wrote a song about endurance and perseverance. I worshipped alone for 130 Sundays, he said, his words translated from Korean to English. I went from solitude to a very loud chaotic world. He was welcomed back to the church Sunday morning with the cheers — and even tears — of an adoring crowd. In 2015, Lim ...

Chelsea set a fee of £109m to Barcelona for Eden Hazard

Retorts has it that Chelsea have quoted a fee of £109m to Barcelona for Belgian attacker Eden Hazard. According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have set an asking price of €120m for Hazard, but could be tempted to drop this demand if the Catalans throw Sergi Roberto into the deal. Electricity Theft Fine to be Increased to N200,000

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is considering a request by one of the existing 11 power distribution companies to increase the penalty for electricity theft from N50,000 to N200,000. This is coming as the commission has said the indebtedness of Discos is a major reason why they often reject part of electricity allocated to them by the Transmission Company of Nigeria. According to NERC, most Discos were heavily indebted to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company Plc, a development that has adversely affected the sector. The two issues were contained in the latest minutes of the 17th power sector stakeholders meeting, which was the most recent meeting of operators in the industry. The document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja on Friday showed that NERC had agreed to look into the request to increase the amount to be paid in fines for electricity theft from N50,000 to N200,000. An official of Jos Disco also reportedly told the gathering that the firm’...

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SPEAKS: "Why we Cannot Investigate Donations by Worshippers."

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, on Saturday,  said it is impossible for the church to vet donations made by individuals to the church. The Director of Communications of the archdiocese, Fr. George Nwachukwu, said that it would amount to an effort in futility if the church begins to screen donations made to the archdiocese by worshippers. He said,   “We are not vetting donations to the archdiocese. The people are many. We have politicians and other people making donations. It will be very difficult to vet them.” Asked if the church would return any donation if it realises that the source of the money was not genuine, Nwachukwu said only the apex leadership of the church could respond to that. The cleric, however, said that the diocese was more interested in winning souls for God. “Donation is secondary. What is primary is winning souls for the kingdom of God. Structures and infrastructure are not ultimate and as such, the archdiocese is more concerned with wi...
